Kudoos to Dr. Smirnova for having her students in the methods class practice with an e-folio live binder practice for edTPA. I am sure that after having the experience of doing a live binder that I am better prepared to do edTPA during student teaching in the Spring. This was a challenge, but having support as I went step by step was extremely helpful. I understand that with the requirements for edTPA being relatively new that any prior understanding of what will be expected is a blessing to have.
The live binder was an intensive project that has given me a "taste" of what to anticipate doing when I have to complete the edTPA. The level of detail and amount of work that goes into the process of completing a passing edTPA will require that I manage my time very well. The academic language that is required is demanding and specific. Having an opportunity to work on the live binder was certainly a lengthy process, but I am sure one that has only prepared me for the reality of what I will face in the Spring.
I agree with your reflection that practicing the edTPA through the Live Binders project will better prepare us for student teaching next semester. Also, we saw, from working together, just how long it takes to complete the edTPA tasks, especially the commentary. It's a good thing that we will have the eFolios forever, since it's not linked to eClass, and can use this as a resource to study from next semester. We can look back to see what we wrote in the various tasks, which can serve as a guide in our actual edTPA experience.
